Our rector

Father Christopher M. Garcia began his ministry at Christ Church on Sunday, 1 October 2017.  He previously served as Rector at Emmanuel Church, Greenwood, Virginia, and as Assistant to the Rector at Christ Church, Georgetown, Washington, D.C.

He earned undergraduate, M.B.A, and law degrees from Cornell University. His seminary education was at Virginia Theological Seminary, where he served at Washington Hospital Center; Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, Purcellville, Virginia; and Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, Arlington, Virginia.

Prior to seminary and ordained ministry Father Christopher served in the U.S. Army for twenty-five years.  He served as an intelligence officer and then in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  Assignments at the Pentagon brought the Garcia family to Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Burke, Virginia, which sponsored him for ordination.

Father Christopher met his wife, Cheryl, while both were in law school, and they have been married for over 25 years.  They have two adult children: Elizabeth, who is the Director for School Operations at KIPP Academy Lynn in Lynn, Massachusetts, and Thomas, an Army 2LT stationed in Seoul, South Korea.

Our history

Christ Church is an historic Episcopal church located at Port Republic, Calvert County, Maryland, United States.  It is the mother Episcopal Church of Calvert County and its oldest continually worshiping congregation. Christ Church Parish was one of the original 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland. Burials in the church cemetery include former U. S. Representative Thomas Parran, Sr. and United States Coast Guard Admiral Merlin O’Neill. Christ Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Christ Church today

Christ Church connections to the past provide a firm foundation from which to minister to our members and those in need today. The parish life page will show you the multitude of ways to connect with others, to be served, and to serve.
